Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
Flavoring
- 3–4 flavors of Jello gelatin powder (e.g., strawberry, lime, grape), 1–2 tbsp each
For Rolling
- Additional granulated sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light, fluffy, and fully combined.
- Add Egg: Beat in the large egg thoroughly until the batter is smooth and homogeneous.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening and seasoning.
- Form Dough: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, stirring until the dough forms and no dry flour remains.
- Divide and Flavor Dough: Split the dough into 3–4 equal portions. To each portion, add 1–2 tablespoons of a different Jello flavor powder (such as strawberry, lime, and grape) and mix well until the dough is evenly colored and flavored.
- Chill Dough: Place the divided dough portions into the refrigerator and chill for 15–20 minutes to firm up for easier handling.
- Shape Cookies: Roll each dough portion into small balls. Coat each ball in additional granulated sugar, then flatten slightly to shape the cookies for baking.
- Bake: Arrange the shaped cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, until the edges are set and the tops have developed crackles.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes to set before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Make sure to chill the dough well to prevent the cookies from spreading too much during baking.
