  • Author: Julian
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings (about 24 cookies) 1x

Description

These Jello Sugar Cookies are soft, chewy, and bursting with colorful, fruity flavors from various Jello gelatin powders. Perfectly sweet and slightly tangy, these cookies bring a fun twist to classic sugar cookies, ideal for parties, holidays, or everyday treats.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

Flavoring

  • 34 flavors of Jello gelatin powder (e.g., strawberry, lime, grape), 1–2 tbsp each

For Rolling

  • Additional granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light, fluffy, and fully combined.
  3. Add Egg: Beat in the large egg thoroughly until the batter is smooth and homogeneous.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening and seasoning.
  5. Form Dough: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, stirring until the dough forms and no dry flour remains.
  6. Divide and Flavor Dough: Split the dough into 3–4 equal portions. To each portion, add 1–2 tablespoons of a different Jello flavor powder (such as strawberry, lime, and grape) and mix well until the dough is evenly colored and flavored.
  7. Chill Dough: Place the divided dough portions into the refrigerator and chill for 15–20 minutes to firm up for easier handling.
  8. Shape Cookies: Roll each dough portion into small balls. Coat each ball in additional granulated sugar, then flatten slightly to shape the cookies for baking.
  9. Bake: Arrange the shaped cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake in the preheated oven for 8–10 minutes, until the edges are set and the tops have developed crackles.
  10. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes to set before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure to chill the dough well to prevent the cookies from spreading too much during baking.
  • Experiment with different Jello flavors to create a fun variety of colorful cookies.
  • Use parchment paper for easy cleanup and to avoid sticking.
  • These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • For extra sparkle, roll the dough balls in colored sanding sugar instead of plain granulated sugar.
