Scale
Milk Base
- 1 cup milk (plant-based like almond milk or dairy milk)
Sweetener and Fat
- 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp coconut oil (optional)
Spices
- 1/4 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Heat Milk and Sweetener: In a small saucepan, gently heat 1 cup of your chosen milk with 1 teaspoon of honey and the optional 1 teaspoon of coconut oil over medium heat. Stir occasionally and bring the mixture to just below boiling point, marked by small bubbles forming around the pan’s edge.
- Add Spices and Blend: Remove the pan from the heat and whisk in the spices—1/4 teaspoon each of ground turmeric, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cardamom—until they are well combined. Allow the mixture to stand for a few minutes to deepen the flavors.
- Strain and Season: Optionally, strain the milk through a fine-mesh strainer to remove spice residue for a smoother texture. Add a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper to enhance the absorption of curcumin from the turmeric. Stir well.
- Serve and Enjoy: Pour the warm spiced milk into a cup and enjoy immediately as a comforting and nourishing beverage.
- Make a Spice Mix in Advance: To prepare a large batch of the spice mix, combine 1/4 cup each of turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom in a jar. Stir well and store. Use 1 teaspoon of this blend per cup of milk when making the drink.
