Description

These Mini Apple Pie Bites are delightful, bite-sized pastries filled with a spiced apple mixture, perfect for a quick dessert or snack. Using puff pastry or pie dough, these easy-to-make treats offer a crispy, golden exterior with a warm, flavorful apple filling accented by cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of brown sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced small
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen) or refrigerated pie dough
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare the apple filling: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), lemon juice, and cornstarch. Mix thoroughly, ensuring all apple pieces are evenly coated to create a flavorful filling that will thicken when baked.
  3. Cut the pastry: Roll out your sheet of puff pastry or pie dough on a clean surface to smooth edges. Cut the dough into small squares approximately 3 inches by 3 inches, which will form the mini pie bases.
  4. Assemble the mini pies: Place about one teaspoon of the apple filling in the center of each pastry square. Fold the dough over to form a pocket or triangle shape and press or pinch the edges together to seal. Crimp edges with a fork for decoration and better sealing.
  5. Add egg wash: Brush the tops of each mini pie with the beaten egg. This gives the pastries a beautiful golden color and shiny finish after baking.
  6. Bake: Arrange the mini pies on the prepared baking sheet, spaced slightly apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until pastries are puffed and golden brown.
  7. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Optionally dust with powdered sugar for a touch of sweetness and enhanced presentation. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can substitute nutmeg with allspice or omit it if preferred.
  • Ensure the edges are sealed well to prevent filling leakage during baking.
  • Allow pastries to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar to avoid melting.
  • Use refrigerated pie dough if puff pastry is not available, but puff pastry gives a flakier texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days and reheat gently before serving.
