Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups bread flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
- 1/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 egg
Add-ins
- 1 cup mixed dried fruit (raisins and currants recommended)
Glaze
- 1/2 cup icing sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the bread flour, sugar, salt, instant yeast, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg into the bread machine pan. Stir slightly to evenly distribute the dry ingredients.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, warm water, melted butter, and egg until well combined. Pour this mixture into the bread machine pan over the dry ingredients.
- Start Dough Cycle: Insert the pan into the bread machine and select the dough cycle. Begin the cycle to allow the machine to mix and knead the dough.
- Add Dried Fruits: When the dough cycle finishes, add the mixed dried fruits into the dough. Let the bread machine knead the dough further to evenly distribute the fruits.
- Shape the Buns: Remove the dough from the machine onto a floured surface. Divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each piece into a smooth ball shaping the buns.
- Let Buns Rise: Place the shaped buns into a greased baking pan, spacing them slightly apart. Cover with a towel and let them rise until doubled in size, approximately 30 minutes.
- Preheat Oven: While the buns are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake: Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown on top.
- Prepare Glaze: Mix the icing sugar and milk together until smooth to create the glaze.
- Glaze the Buns: Once baked, drizzle the glaze over the warm buns to finish with a classic shining top.
Notes
- Make sure the milk and water are warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly without killing it.
- Use room temperature melted butter to ensure it mixes well without cooking the egg.
- You can substitute mixed dried fruits with just raisins or other dried fruits if preferred.
- Allow the buns to cool slightly before glazing for best appearance.
- For a more traditional look, you can pipe cross shapes on the buns using a flour and water paste before baking.
