Description

These Ham and Havarti Cheese Sliders are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack featuring savory black forest ham and creamy Havarti cheese layered on soft, buttery Hawaiian rolls. Topped with a flavorful poppy seed butter glaze, these sliders are perfect for game day, parties, or a quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Rolls

  • 1 package Savory Butter Hawaiian Rolls (12 count)

Meat and Cheese

  • 12 slices black forest ham
  • 6 slices Havarti cheese

Butter Topping

  • 4 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare rolls and baking dish: Slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally without separating the individual rolls. Carefully remove the top half of the rolls and set them aside. Lightly grease a 9×12-inch baking pan with butter and place the bottom half of the rolls inside, keeping the rolls joined together.
  2. Add ham and cheese: Layer each individual roll on the bottom half with one slice of black forest ham and then top with half a slice of Havarti cheese, spreading evenly across the rolls.
  3. Prepare and add buttery topping: In a microwavable bowl, melt the salted butter by heating it for about 30 seconds. Stir in the Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and poppy seeds to create a flavorful glaze. Replace the top half of the Hawaiian rolls onto the cheese layer and brush generously with the prepared butter-poppy seed mixture.
  4. Bake: Loosely cover the baking pan with aluminum foil and bake the sliders in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes. Then remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown.

Notes

  • Worcestershire sauce and onion powder are optional but add extra flavor to the buttery topping.
  • Use a sharp knife to carefully slice the rolls horizontally to keep them intact.
  • These sliders are best served warm fresh out of the oven.
  • You can add additional toppings like pickles or mustard if desired.
  • For a crispier top, broil for 1-2 minutes after the final baking step, watching closely to prevent burning.
