Scale
Pie Base
- 1 package of croissant dough (8–10 croissants)
Filling
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
- 1 cup of diced cooked ham, bacon, or sausage (optional)
- ½ cup of chopped bell peppers (optional)
- ½ cup of chopped onions (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garnish
- Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pie.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly grease a pie dish or round baking pan using cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
- Roll Out Croissant Dough: Open the croissant dough package, separate the triangles, and lay them out overlapping slightly to cover the bottom and sides of the pie dish as a crust.
- Whisk Eggs and Milk: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Fillings: Stir in the shredded cheese, cooked meat, bell peppers, and onions (if using) into the egg mixture thoroughly to evenly distribute the ingredients.
- Pour Mixture: Carefully pour the filling mixture over the croissant dough in the pie dish, spreading it evenly.
- Fold Over Edges: Gently fold the edges of the croissant dough over the filling to form a crust and help contain the filling during baking.
- Bake: Place the prepared pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the egg filling is fully set.
- Cool: Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes so the filling can settle and slicing will be easier.
- Garnish: Sprinkle fresh herbs on top for added flavor and an attractive presentation before serving.
Notes
- You can customize the filling by using your preferred cheese and choice of cooked meats or omit meats for a vegetarian version.
- Vegetables like bell peppers and onions add extra flavor and texture but can be omitted or substituted.
- Ensure the egg mixture is thoroughly cooked and set before removing from the oven to avoid a runny center.
- Serve warm for best taste and texture.
