Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Filling
- 1 pound lean ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
- 1 tablespoon honey
For the Wonton Cups
- 24 pieces wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray or oil, as needed for coating
Optional Garnishes
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare muffin tin: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a standard muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Shape wonton cups: Press one wonton wrapper into each muffin well, gently shaping the edges to form a cup.
- Bake wonton wrappers: Bake the pressed wonton cups for 8–10 minutes until the edges turn lightly golden and crisp.
- Sauté aromatics: Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and freshly grated ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Cook chicken: Add the ground chicken to the skillet and cook, stirring frequently, until no pink remains, approximately 5 minutes.
- Flavor the filling: Stir in soy sauce, honey, and chopped water chestnuts. Continue cooking until the sauce has reduced slightly and the mixture is well combined.
- Add green onions: Remove the skillet from heat and gently fold in the thinly sliced green onions.
- Fill wonton cups: Spoon the chicken mixture generously into each pre-baked wonton cup, filling them evenly.
- Bake filled cups: Return the filled wonton cups to the oven and bake for another 5–7 minutes until heated through and slightly crisp at the edges.
- Garnish and serve: Let the wonton cups cool slightly, then sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and fresh chopped cilantro before serving.
Notes
- For an extra zing, drizzle with sriracha mayo before serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- You can freeze uncooked wonton cups in the muffin tin for up to 2 months; bake directly from frozen, adding extra baking time.
- Use lean ground chicken to keep the filling tender and juicy without excess fat.
