Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- ¼ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp melted butter, for brushing
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon until well combined.
- Combine wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk the large egg with light brown sugar until blended. Then add the milk, sour cream or plain yogurt, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing well.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures. Gently stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined; be careful not to overmix to keep the donuts tender.
- Fill the donut pan. Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a zip-top plastic bag with the corner snipped off, then pipe the batter into the donut pan cavities, filling each about three-quarters full.
- Bake the donuts. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the donuts spring back when lightly touched, signaling they are cooked through.
- Cool the donuts. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes to set, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Brush and coat. Brush the warm donuts with melted butter and immediately roll them in the mixture of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for a sweet, crunchy coating.
- Serve or store. Serve your delicious cinnamon sugar donuts fresh for the best flavor, or store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Notes
- You can use dairy or non-dairy milk and yogurt based on preference or dietary needs.
- Make sure not to overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and fluffy.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, a zip-top bag with the corner cut off works well for filling the donut pan.
- Donuts are best enjoyed fresh but can be microwaved briefly to warm if stored.
- Feel free to adjust the cinnamon sugar ratio on the coating to suit your taste.
