Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes and Seasonings
- 2 pounds russet potatoes (can substitute with red potatoes)
- 3 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Optional
- Coarse salt for topping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for roasting the potatoes to crispy perfection.
- Prepare Potatoes: Scrub the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into 1/2-inch cubes. Place the cut potatoes in a large mixing bowl.
- Season Potatoes: Add the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, optional cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper to the bowl with the potatoes. Mix well ensuring all potato pieces are evenly coated with the seasoning and oil.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the seasoned potatoes evenly across a baking sheet. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan to allow the potatoes to roast evenly and get crispy.
- Roast Potatoes: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the potatoes undisturbed for 20-25 minutes. This allows them to cook through and start getting golden.
- Broil for Crispiness: After baking, switch your oven to broil and broil the potatoes for about 5 minutes to achieve an extra crispy exterior. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
- Serve: Remove the potatoes from the oven and optionally sprinkle with some coarse salt. Toss immediately to distribute the salt and serve hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For even cooking, try to cut potato pieces uniformly around 1/2 inch.
- Using a convection oven can enhance crispiness but adjust time accordingly.
- If you prefer less spice, omit the cayenne pepper.
- Russet potatoes yield a fluffier interior, while red potatoes hold shape better after roasting.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the baking sheet to avoid steaming instead of roasting.
