3-Ingredient Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups Recipe

  • Author: Julian
  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes to 6 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 16 rolls 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These 3-Ingredient Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups are a sweet, chewy, and healthy nostalgia-packed snack made with fresh or frozen fruit, honey, and lemon juice. Perfect for lunchboxes, after-school treats, or guilt-free snacking, they capture real fruit flavor with simple ingredients and a slow-baked method that requires only your oven and a bit of patience.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Mixture

  • 46 cups fresh or frozen fruit (600700 g) – berries, mango, peaches, or any blend you love

Sweetener

  • 46 Tbsp honey (or sugar or sugar substitute)

Acid

  • 4 Tbsp lemon juice (60 mL)

Instructions

  1. Prep & Purée Party! Wash, peel, and chop your fruit if needed. Blend it in batches if necessary until silky smooth, adding small splashes of water if too thick. No chunks allowed!
  2. Sweet Talk & Simmer Sesh! Transfer the purée to a saucepan. Add honey and lemon juice, then simmer on low heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring often until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  3. Spread the Love! Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. Spread the purée evenly on each sheet about 1/8-inch thick, using a spatula or by tilting the sheets to level the mixture.
  4. Low & Slow Bake! Bake at 170°F (75°C) for 4–6 hours, no peeking, until the fruit leather is tacky but no longer sticky. For humid environments, prop the oven door slightly open and consider an extra hour of baking or finish in a dehydrator.
  5. Roll It Like You Mean It! Let the fruit leather cool completely. Peel off the parchment, slice into 2-inch strips, and roll up tightly with the parchment paper attached. Store in airtight containers for freshness.

Notes

  • Frozen fruit should be thawed before blending for smooth texture.
  • Maple syrup can replace honey for a vegan option; sugar substitutes work for low-carb needs.
  • If the purée is too chunky, strain it through a sieve for smoother roll-ups.
  • Use silicone mats for best non-stick results or lightly grease parchment paper with coconut oil.
  • If leather cracks during rolling, lightly spritz with water and wait 10 minutes to soften.
  • Store rolls in airtight jars at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months, layered with parchment.
  • For a twist, try adding spices like cayenne, or layering different fruit purées side-by-side before baking.
